We are a Crown Entity that provides independent, evidence-based advice on climate change issues to Aotearoa's government of the day.

Our advice is based on research and analysis of different factors that can affect our emissions and the potential impacts and effects of climate change. It also takes into account the perspectives of New Zealanders.

Our advice helps the government make decisions to help Aotearoa transition to being a thriving climate-resilient and low emissions country.

Alongside providing advice, we also monitor and check progress towards any climate goals Aotearoa has committed to.

The Climate Change Commission will be around for a long time. As a country, our approach to climate change is planned out until 2050 and beyond. Now and in the future, we will provide the government with independent advice on how Aotearoa can address the effects of climate change.
